I first heard Gaelin Elmore speak in July 2024, and his story hasn’t left me since. It wasn’t just the power of his words—it was the depth of lived truth he carried. Truth about the impact of childhood adversity. Truth about the healing force of human connection. Truth about what’s possible when communities decide that prevention is better than repair.

At Kindred Hearts, we believe in that kind of upstream thinking. Every week, we meet families who arrive exhausted—burned out, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. Sometimes, it’s after behaviors have escalated. Sometimes, it’s after school suspensions, ER visits, or placement disruptions. Always, it’s too late to be called early intervention.

But what if we didn’t wait until the breaking point?

What if we built stronger nets—woven from compassion, connection, and community—that caught families before they fell?

As someone who experienced the foster care system firsthand, Gaelin doesn’t just speak about adversity—he speaks about systems, about the role we all play in shaping outcomes for vulnerable kids. He reminds us that trauma doesn’t begin in isolation, and healing won’t either. It requires community. Intention. Prevention.

“How do we make sure fewer families reach crisis in the first place?”
